At first glance, music and art seem like two different endeavors. I taught myself to play the violin by listening to recorded music and adding a little riff of my own. I can't read, but I had the feeling I was filling in a space, and also being drawn into it, like a void pulling me into the music. I didn't realize the connection between what I was doing musically and painting, but looking at a blank canvas and imagining where I could go with it is not much different than playing music. The space is out there, and it's up to me to fill it. In the end, music and art look very different, but the feeling that comes with actually doing them is very similar.
